Abstract
1279933 Flash evaporator in sterilization apparatus A P V CO Ltd 2 Dec 1970 57367/ 70 Heading B1B After sterilization of sterilization flash evaporator 16, the pressure is reduced gradually to the operation mode by feeding steam from the evaportor via bleed valve 29 to the inlet feed 24 to condensing coil 23 so that hot water passes through the condensing coil. In operation of evaporator 16, which forms part of a direct steam injection sterilising apparatus, liquid to be sterilised is heated by steam injection at 13 and then passes to chamber 17 in evaporator 16 kept at sub atmospheric pressure where part of the liquid flashes off and is condensed by cooling coil 22 and condensing coil 23 fed with cold water through pipe 24. To effect sterilization of the apparatus, pump 18 is shut off and the cold water supply to condensor coil 23 and cooling coil 22 is stopped so that the temperature and pressure in evaporator 16 builds up to 130‹C and 30 p.s.i. respectively.
