Abstract
551,063. Feedwater supply systems. ARROWSMITH, G., and HICK, HARGREAVES & CO., Ltd. Nov. 11, 1941, No. 14530. [Class 123 (ii)] A boiler feed supply system comprises a direct contact heater 4 serving as a deaerator, and a surge tank 11 which is in free hydraulic communication with the condensate supply pipe 3a, the inlet branch to the heater and discharge branches of the heater extraction pump 5. When the demand of the boiler feed pump falls, excess deaerated water delivered by the extraction pump is recirculated through a storage tank 10a to the supply nozzles 4a of the heater to maintain a supply of deaerated water in the storage tank for use to supplement the output of the extraction upon increase demand of the feed pump. Valves 3b, 4d controlling the supplies of condensate and heating steam to the heater are controlled in accordance with the pressure difference across the extraction pump. The heater is evacuated through a connection 13 with the condenser or through an ejector operated when the condenser is closed down. The normal supply of heating steam may be supplemented by the hot drains from supplementary heaters 8 and supplied through spray nozzles 12.
