Abstract

1,270,868. Rolling. J. FROHLING, [trading as JOSEF FROHLING]. 18 Sept., 1969 [23 Sept., 1968], No. 46144/69. Heading B3M. [Also in Division G1] Electrical signals representative of the thickness and hardness of a metal strip 1 are converted by an hydraulic valve 11 into pressure fluctuations which are transmitted by pipes 12, 12a to hydraulic cylinders 13, 13a and pistons 14, 14a. A rack 15 connected to the pistons is thereby displaced, the displacement being transferred by a gear rim to a cam 16. The cam controls the pressure with which a backing roll 17 of a rolling mill presses on to the work roll 18 engaging the metal strip. The signals are derived from measuring and control apparatus (see Division G1).
