Abstract

1,045,605. Rolling. ACHENBACH SÍHNE G.m.b.H. May 25, 1964 [July 29, 1963]. No. 21432/64. Heading B3M. The work rolls 7 and 8 in a four-high roll stand are balanced by means of hollow pistons 12 moving in bores in the backing roll chocks 3 and 4. The pistons 12 each have a projection 13 engaging in a recess 9 in a work roll chock so that movement of the pistons urges the work rolls towards or away from one another. Movement of the pistons 12 is controlled by fluid pressure which is introduced to one or other side of counter-pistons 15, slidable in the pistons 12 and fixed to the chocks 3 and 4. Passages 17 and 18, passing through the stem 16 of each counter-piston 15, serve to convey pressure fluid. According to whether the end of the work rolls are urged towards or away from one another, the rolls exhibit a concave or convex profile towards the opposite roll.
