950,882. Continuous casting machines. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 3, 1962 [May 1, 1961], No. 15663/61. Heading B3F. Roll adjustment apparatus suitable for use with pinch rolls in a continuous casting process includes a pair of rolls each journalled in one arm of a bell-crank mechanism mounted for rotation about an axis parallel to the associated roll axis, the bell-crank mechanisms being linked mechanically such that rotation of one mechanism to adjust the position of its associated roll also causes adjustment of the other roll in an equal and opposite manner. As shown, rolls 10 and 11 mounted on bell-crank mechanisms 12 and 13 are rotated about journals 14 and 15 by a fluid pressure piston 18, a link 17 mechanically connecting the two mechanisms. The piston may be double acting or may be duplicated for mechanism 12, similar pistons being provided for moving the rolls apart. Two pairs of rolls may be provided, Fig. 4b, a lever 25, acted upon by an adjustable spring 23, causing simultaneous action of the rolls. The rolls may be driven in a reverse direction to feed a dummy bar at the beginning of casting.
