Abstract

A thermostatic control device for domestic vessel-heating appliances such as cookers comprises a temperature sensing element 8 carried by a support 9 on an arm 10 pivotally mounted on a spindle 11, the element 8 being located above the centre of a burner 2 of the appliance and being urged into contact with the base of a vessel 5 when placed to rest on bars 6 above the burner, by means of a spring 12 acting on the arm 10. The element 8 may be in the form of a diaphragm or capsule and is connected by a capillary tube 16 to the termostat proper (not shown). Lugs may extend laterally from the support 9 to engage the underside of the bars 6 leaving the element 8 projecting slightly above the bars when the vessel 5 is not in place. When the bars 6 are removed for cleaning, the spring 12 will -cause the element 8 to swing upwards well clear of the burner 2. In place of these lugs, a manually operable catch may be provided acting on a plate connected to the arm 10, and in a further alternative embodiment the element 8 and support 9 may be mounted for pivotal movement about a vertical axis, as well as a horizontal axis to allow the element 8 to be moved laterally clear of the burner 2 when thermostatic control is not required.
