[Also in Groups XX and XXIX] An oil-burning heater consists of a fuel reservoir 3, a valve 5 controlling the flow of fuel between the reservoir and a wick 7 arranged in conjunction with a burner assembly 8 so as to feed fuel thereto, wherein the valve comprises a needle valve which is controlled by a lever arm 12 which is operable from outside the casing, the arm 12 being normally urged by a spring 15, or by gravity to a position in which the valve is closed and means being provided for latching the arm in plurality of different positions in which the valve is open to varying degrees. The arm 12 pivots on a bracket 13 on the casing and has end forks 12a connected by a link 14 to the plunger of the needle control valve. The arm has a lip which selectively engages one of a number of ratchet teeth on a plate behind the casing wall. The valve automatically closes when the burner is lifted or tilted by a vertically movable member 23, the end of which contacts the floor and moves downwardly in a bracket 24 under the action of a spring 25, when the burner is lifted or tilted, and a protruding portion 23b on the vertically movable member engages the arm 12 and moves it out of engagement with the ratchet teeth and closes the valve. The casing is mounted on adjustable legs and comprises a levelling device in the form of a ball rolling on the surface of a wide-angle cone observable through an aperture 31 in an opaque disc and viewed through a transparent cover 28. A second lever pivots on a bracket 20 in the casing and is operated from outside the casing to lift the burner assembly 8 to expose the wick for lighting. Specification 877,956 is referred to.
