Abstract
1,250,515. Tunnels &c. HOESCH A.G. 25 Oct., 1968 [12 Dec., 1967], No. 50673/68. Heading E1F. A supporting structure for underground curved tunnels, roads or shafts, comprises supporting frames 1 at an angle to one another and compensating frames 3 and/or 14 arranged to transmit thrust and/or pull between adjacent supporting frames and radially offset from the supporting frames so as to be in peripheral contact with the supporting frames around the complete circumference thereof. The supporting frames may be of channel cross-section having flanges with wedge-shaped lips la, 1b, may be circular or elliptical, may be in sections joined by straps extending parallel to the axis of the tunnel, and may be composed of steel, or concrete which may be reinforced or steel clad. The wedge surfaces of the compensating frames may be straight, as shown, or arched. Bolts 15 may be used to secure the frames 14 to the supporting frame. In the absence of the frames 14, the frames 3 may be held in place by spaced plates bolted to the supporting frames and contacting the sides of the channel parts of the adjacent supporting frames. In another embodiment both the supporting and compensating frames are of outwardly flared U-cross-section with the supporting and compensating frames being open towards the exterior and interior respectively of the tunnel. A sealant may be applied between the supporting and compensating frames, and between the sections of the supporting frames.
