Abstract

724,853. Tunnel linings. TATTERSALL, F. Aug. 28, 1953 [May 1, 1953], No. 12188/53. Class 85. A lining for tunnels or the like comprises a number of ring-like sections located end to end, each consisting of a plurality of elements arcuately shaped in cross-section two of the elements 2, 3, being tapered along one longitudinal edge to fit a wedge element 1, and the remaining elements 4 having both longitudinal edges parallel with the centre line of the tunnel. The elements 1, 2, 3 may be replaced by two elements 8, 9 shown in the ring section D. The key elements 1, 8 may be forced into place by a hydraulic ram 6. The elements may be made of plain or reinforced concrete, cast iron or steel and may be solid, hollow or troughshaped. Grouting or caulking may be used in securing the sections in place.
