Abstract

1,242,017. Tongs for lifting horizontal coils. COCKERILL - OUGREE - PROVIDENCE ET ESPERANCE - LONGDOZ. 20 June, 1969 [20 June, 1968], No. 31268/69. Heading B8H. Coils with their axes disposed horizontally are engaged and lifted by telescopic arms 6, Fig. 1, which are attached to the ends of telescopic arms 10, 14. When the load is lifted the arms 6 extend and rams 26 inside the arms force hydraulic fluid into an accumulator 31. Oil under pressure from the accumulator is used to supply a ram 20 which extends and retracts the arms 10, 14, Fig. 3. The portions 14 are projected by racks 18, 19 and toothed wheels 16 mounted on the portions 10. The ram 20, Fig. 1, is controlled by a valve 35 and a radio-operated switch 36. The two telescopic portions 23, 24 of the arms 6 slide on ball races 27. The device is supported by a pair of plates 3 pivoted at 4 and connected by a bar 1.
