Abstract

769,493. Load handling devices. CASWELL LOADER CO., Ltd. March 14, 1955 [April 2, 1954], No. 9754/54. Class 78 (3). [Also in Group XXI] In a lever load handling device for use on a tractor, initial lifting of the boom 1 is effected by a ground engaging roller 28. This roller is supported by a pair of levers 25 which are pivoted to the boom side members at 26 and are secured to chains 22 passing over a pair of pulleys, mounted on the piston-rod 19 of an hydraulic ram, to anchors 23. Pivotal movement of levers 25 is limited by a bar 29 so that after the initial lift has been effected by roller 28, the boom is raised by chains 22. The fork 2 can be replaced by a shovel or other load-lifting apparatus. In a modification (not shown), described in the Provisional Specification only, a spring is provided to retract the roller 28.
