Abstract
568,248. Baling presses. TONGE & SON (SALFORD), Ltd., F., and TONGE, F. Nov. 19, 1943, No. 19341. [Class 94 (i)] The compression box 9 of a baling press is adapted to be swung about horizontal pivots 13 to carry its open upper end clear of the ram 5, as shown in broken lines, for filling, and to return it to position beneath the ram, as shown in full lines, for compression of its contents. The box 9 swings between uprights 3 carried by plates 6 secured to channel iron bases 7, and the uprights are connected by a crosspiece 4 forming a guide for the ram 5. Angle irons 10 secured to the sides of the box have fixed to them brackets 12 connected to the plates 6 by the pivot bolts 13. When the box is in compressing position, the irons 10 rest on the irons 7 and take the strain from the pivots. The swinging movement of the box into filling position is limited by the engagement of the front portions of the irons 10 with inclined cutaway parts 11 of the irons 7 and by stops 14 on the sides of the box engaging stops 15 carried by the uprights 3.
