Abstract

1,241,818. Grippers. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DELATTRE-LEVIVIER. 12 Nov., 1968 [28 Dec., 1967], No. 53578/68. Heading B8H. A safety device for a hoisting grab having two jaws 1 bearing laterally on a load 16 to be raised, comprises a plate 9 suspended from each jaw 1 through a bearing arm 10 pivoted at 11 to the jaw and movable into and out of a position below the load 16 by a fluid pressure ram 12 pivoted between the jaw and the plate. Any force on the plates 9 due to dropping of the load 16 between the jaws 1 is resisted by the rams 12. In the embodiment of Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the plates are each suspended from a jaw by two pivoted bearing arms one of which is coupled to the ram. A system for locking the plates in the load supporting position is shown in Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) and comprises an eccentric cam pivoted to one bearing arm associated with each jaw and engageable with a circular ramp formed on the jaw when the cam is rotated into a spring biased over centre locking position, from a similarly spring-biased unlocking position. In the embodiment of Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the plates are each suspended from a jaw by two pivoted bearing arms, and the ram is pivoted to the jaw and to the pivoted connection of two levers, the remote ends of which are pivoted to the jaw and to one of the bearing arms. The levers are arranged to be in line and at right angles to the bearing arms when the plate is in the position below the load, so as to form a lock resisting pivoting of the arms.
