Abstract

1,125,243. Grippers for lifting sheet metal. J. C. RENFROE & SONS Inc. 30 March, 1967 [11 April, 1966], No. 14482/67. Heading B8H. A gripper for lifting sheet metal has a onepiece locking device 50, Fig. 3, which holds a movable jaw 25 in gripping position by means of a spring 75 extending between a bar 76 connected to the jaw operating links 38 and a bar 54 of the locking device. The locking device has an over-centre action about a pivot 58 and in its alternative position, Fig. 4, a projection 82 abuts a shoulder 83 on one of the operating links to hold the jaw 25 open. Two projections 82 may be provided for engagement with both operating links. A jaw 24 is rotatable about a bolt 26 and has an annular gripping projection. It is mounted in a reinforcing bar 14 which extends between the side plates of the gripper. The upper end of this box and a cross-member 16, 18 act as fulcra for a shackle 41 when the sheet to be lifted is horizontally disposed. (Fig. 7) shows the looking device. An eccentric bar 57 which connects the handle 56 to the plates 52, 53 moves in an arcuate slot in one of the side plates of the gripper. Pivot bolts 58, 59 attach the looking device to the gripper.
