Abstract

1317917 Locks AISIN SEIKI KK 5 Oct 1970 [4 Oct 1969] 38989/72 Divided out of 1317916 Heading E2A A door latch for a motor vehicle comprises a latch bolt 18 engageable by a pawl 19 that is pivotable to a latch releasing position by a control lever 38 that is pivotally mounted coaxially with the pawl on a shaft 17 and on the side of a mounting plate 41 remote from the pawl and is connected to the pawl by a projection 40 on the pawl movable in an arcuate slot 42 in the mounting plate. The latch bolt 18 is mounted to turn with a shaft 16 which has an enlarged portion 16a for engagement with a surface of a pin 12 of a striker 10 when in fully latching position. The latch bolt is retained in a safety latching or in a fully latching position by the spring urged pawl 19 and is released by actuating a lever 33 pivoted to a cover plate by turning an inside handle connected by a lever 37 to the lever 33 at one end thereof or by turning an outside handle connected to the other end. The releasing lever 33 is pivotally connected to a link 35 whereby actuating the lever pivots the link to abut an end flange 38b upstanding from the control lever 38, causing the control lever to rotate and with it the pawl 19 to release the latch bolt. A locking lever 31 pivoting on the shaft 17 is connected to the link 35 by a pin and slot connection and is actuated by an inside push button or an outside cylinder lock to rotate the end of the link 35 out of contact with the flange 38b so preventing release of the pawl from the latch bolt. Locking of the door before it is closed is cancelled by closing the door, the latch bolt pivoting and causing the pawl to rotate and with it the control lever 38 causing a flange 38a thereon to strike the link 35 which rotates and pivots the locking lever 31 to the unlocking position. Keyless locking is effected by closing the door with both the latch releasing and locking levers actuated whereby the flange 38a is unable to rotate the link 35 and locking remains effective. A rotatable plastics member 27 mounted on the shaft 17 engages the striker 10 and a resilient buffer 29 on the cover plate 41 or on a housing portion, or the member 27 may carry the resilient buffer which abuts a flange 30 on the cover plate. A resilient buffer 43 on the housing portion limits rotation of the latch bolt.
