Abstract
1,188,785. Rotary hydraulic pumps and motors. APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 2, 1968, No.37000/68. Heading F1F. A rotary hydraulic pump or motor of the kind having a shaft mounted rotor rotating in a housing and radially extending vanes between the rotor and the housing to provide a plurality of variable volume chambers, comprises a housing 10, Fig. 2, composed of an end-plate 22, pressure compensating plates 14, 16, an annular mid-portion 18 and a forebody 12 with an aligning ring 20 encompassing the plates 14, 16 and the midportion 18 and a plurality of radial axially-extending slots 74, Fig. 1 in the mid-portion 18 slidably mounting vanes 76 urged into sealing engagement with the oval periphery of a rotor 30, loosely splined to a shaft 26 for coaxial rotation within the mid-portion. Operating as a motor, pressure liquid admitted through an inlet bore 50 passes into an annular groove 51 in the end-plate 22 and an arcuate slot 48 and an annular groove 44 in the plate 14 and thence through axial bores 40 and arcuate peripheral recesses 36 in the rotor to the working chambers of the motor. To provide hydraulic balance and sealingly urge the plates 14, 16 into sealing engagement with the rotor, the plate 16 is a mirror image of the plate 14 with an annular groove 42 and arcuate slot 46 which communicates with an annular groove 52 in the forebody 12. Liquid from the motor is exhausted through arcuate peripheral rotor recesses 38 and radial and axial rotor bores 58, 56, annular grooves 62, 60 and arcuate slots (not shown) in the plates 14, 16 and an annular groove 70 in the end-plate 22 to an outlet bore (not shown). The vanes 76, include bores 80 therethrough so that the vanes are in hydraulic balance and urged into sealing contact with the rotor periphery only by springs 84. In a modification, an annular space 186, Fig.5, between a mid-portion 118 and an aligning ring 120 is supplied with pressure liquid from the working chambers at inlet pressure through a bore 190 fitted with a non-return valve 192. Plungers 194 co-operable with the vanes are subjected to liquid pressure to enhance the sealing of the vanes. In another modification of Fig. 1, the bores 80 are omitted and replaced by the annular space and valve controlled bore of Fig. 5.
