Abstract

1,230,137. Rotary positive-displacement pumps and motors. SPERRY RAND CORP. May 15, 1968 [June 22, 1967], No.22975/68. Heading F1F. In a pump, or motor, vanes 64 are slidable radially within stepped slots 66 formed in a rotor 44 that is lodged between a fixed wear plate 16 and an axially-movable pressure-loaded plate 34, a thrust member 88 being seated in a groove 90 on each vane so as to form a chamber 96. To hold the vanes against a cam ring 12 while they travel outwardly relative to the rotor in the regions of ports 26, 27 for low-pressure working-fluid and corresponding dummy ports 76, 78 pressure is applied to the respective chambers 96 from ports 72, 74 for the high-pressure working-fluid and corresponding dummy ports 80, 82 through passages 100 to 108 and ports 98, 106 in said plates. The dummy ports effect axial balancing of pressures on the rotor. Blind ports 110, 112 obviate compression of fluid in said chambers when the vanes are retracted. Pressures at the inner and outer ends of the vanes are equalized through passages 114 in the rotor and auxiliary ports 120, 122, 128, 130 for the low-pressure working-fluid. An additional thrust member 88a may be provided for each vane. Inlet and outlet connections 22, 28 are formed in housing parts 14, 18. Initial loading of the plate 34 is effected by a spring 45.
