Abstract
1,155,154. Rotary hydraulic pumps and motors. ROCKWELL MFG. CO. March 28, 1967 [March 25, 1966], No. 14027/67. Heading F1F. A rotary hydraulic pump, or motor, comprises a pair of rotors 92, 94 attached to a common power-input, or power-output, shaft 70 supported by bearings 76, 78 at the ends of a casing 22, 34, 36, 48, 50 that includes an inlet and outlet ports 28, 30 for the hydraulic working-fluid, each of said rotors being furnished with two diametricallyopposite lobes or vanes 102, 104 that engage with the inner peripheral-surface 138 of a cylindrical housing 131 for a plurality of rotary abutments 150--153, which are coupled to said shaft by gears 116, 118. The inlet port 30 is connected to ports in the trailing sides of the vanes 102, 104 by passages 184, 186 in said casing and said housing and oblique passages 188, 196 in each rotor, the outlet port 28 being connected to ports on the leading sides of the vanes by further oblique passages 206, 209, an annular chamber 212 circumjacent a sleeve 110 between the two rotors, and a passage 214 in said casing. The generally counter-axial flow of working fluid between the passages 184, 186 and the chamber 212 renders the resultant axial-thrust on the shaft 70 substantially nil. When the machine operates as a motor, the working fluid flows in the opposite direction i.e. from the port 28 to the port 30.
