A kit of parts to make a movement-transmitting system for a window or door fastening, comprises a first strip 16 which in use is adapted to be disposed in a channel 14 associated with the window or door so as to be longitudinally movable therein, a plurality of support members 17 which in use are disposed in the channel to guide the first strip, a second strip 18 which in use covers the open side of the channel, two coupling members 24 adapted to be engaged with the first strip, a first group 22 of equidistantly spaced connection means 21 extending along the first strip from one end thereof, and a second group 23 of equidistantly spaced connection means 21 extending along the first strip from the other end thereof, the spacings in the two groups being different, one of the coupling members engaging in use with a connection means in the first group and adjacent said one end of the first strip and the other of the coupling members engaging in use with a connection means in the second group and adjacent said other end of the first strip. The fastening is of the type in which the system extends along three sides of the window or door the coupling members being connected in pairs by cornering means 21 disposed at two adjacent corners. Each coupling member includes a stud which is selectively engageable in any one of a number of holes 21 in the strip the holes providing the connecting means; as shown in Fig. 3 the holes of group 22 for connection to the stud 24 of the left hand coupling member have a greater pitch than the holes of group 23 for the right hand coupling member so that if for example the difference between the two pitches is one millimeter the coupling members can be spaced with an accuracy of one millimeter. A number of different forms of support members for supporting and guiding the strip 16 are shown; one is in the form of a sleeve through which the strip passes, the number having a hole in its outer wall through which the whole of a screw can be passed to engage with a countersunk hole in the inner wall and with the door or window. This support member is made of a plastics material and the groove in the door or window is closed by the strip 18 which has serrated ribs along its edges to bite into the material of the door or window; the strip 18 can have two parts with a tongue and groove connection if desired. Instead of the strip 18 having ribs to engage the groove the support member can be provided with longitudinally extending ribs and the strip 18 with slots to engage the ribs. Another form of support member is made of sheet metal bent to substantially U shape and provided with end portions which grip the strip 18, the strip 18 being provided with grooves for this purpose. Instead of two groups of different pitch there can be one group of one pitch and several groups all of the same pitch but with a different pitch from the first group.
