Abstract

1,170,708. Seats. RECARO A.G. 4 April, 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 16273/68. Heading A4J. [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] A hinge fitment for windows or seat backs comprises two portions 1, 3 pivotally connected together by a hinge pin 2, and a differential gear drive for operating the hinge comprising a ring gear 4 secured to the portion 1, a ring gear 6 secured to the portion 3 and a differential gear wheel 13 engaging the two ring gears 4, 6 simultaneously and rotatable on a pin 12 on an arm 11 extending from the hinge pin 2, the ring gears having different numbers of teeth. In operation the hinge pin 2 is rotated by a hand wheel 14 causing the differential gear 13 to roll around both ring gears and, since the ring gears have different numbers of teeth relative angular movement of the ring gears takes place. The teeth on the ring gears may be external. In a modification (Figs 3, 4) the two ring gears (104, 106) are mounted eccentrically and the addendum and dedendum circle diameters are different but the modulus is the same. In a further modification (Figs. 5, 6) the two ring gears (204, 206) are coaxially mounted but have different diameters and the differential wheel 213 comprises two discs (213<SP>1</SP>, 213<SP>11</SP>) of different diameters welded together and having different numbers of teeth.
