Abstract

1,167,595. Treating charge; spray carburetters; crank-case ventilation. B. WALKER. Oct.27, 1967, No. 49068/67. Heading F1B. In an I.C. engine exhaust gas is by-passed from the exhaust manifold 72 to the inlet manifold 26 when the engine is decelerating above a predetermined speed with the throttle valve 12 closed. Spring-biased diaphragm motors B and C, operated by the suction in the inlet manifold 26, open a valve 71 in the exhaust by-pass 73, 75, 78, 79 and move a member 45 to close a tube 31 supplying idling mixture and close a valve 87 between the exhaust manifold 72 and the exhaust pipe 50, respectively. The motors B and C are connected to the inlet manifold or atmosphere under the control of solenoid actuated valve member 61. The flow of exhaust gas through the by-pass is adjustable by means of a valve 76. Fuel for idling is fed to the needle controlled idling port 23 and needle controlled port 29 to the tube 31 from a float chamber 13 fed by a fuel pump. Fumes from the engine crank-case and air from the air cleaner A heated by exhaust heater 41 pass into the tube 31 past a valve 44. A spark plug 95 in the exhaust manifold 72 is operated when the valve 87 is closed.
