Abstract

[Also in Division F1] The flow of gases from the exhaust pipe of an engine through conduits 16, 50 to the inlet manifold 30 is controlled by a valve 31 responsive to inlet suction. With low inlet suction in chamber 43 spring 42 holds valve member 33 against restricted section 32 so as to prevent exhaust gas flow through the valve. As suction in chamber 43 increases member 33 moves to the right to permit exhaust gas flow, the latter being controlled by the contour 36 of member 33. With a still further increase in suction member 33 moves further to the right into a position in which section 37 substantially prevents gas flow.
