The supporting structure of an article of furniture comprises grooved vertical members 4 having end projections (5) adapted to enter vertical grooves 2, 2<SP>1</SP> in horizontal members 1 and to be secured therein by bolts or screws. Shelves 9 are secured to the horizontal members 1 by bolts or screws. Panels, door hinges and brackets for supporting shelves co-operate with the grooves 6 in the vertical members 4. A sound insulating substance may fill the cavity of a double back wall.
