Abstract

1,103,111. Smoothing yarns. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. 10 Aug., 1964 [17 May, 1963], No. 18753/63. Heading D1F. Yarns 11 withdrawn from a supply by a feed roller 13 are guided away from the roller in a direction inclined to a plane perpendicular to its axis of rotation so that the yarn rolls on the surface of the roller to wrap projecting fibres about the yarns. The yarns then pass through a guide 18 to be wound up on a twisting spindle, e.g. a ring spindle. The surface of roller 13 is preferably rough, e.g. it may be of carborundum. Guide 18 may form part of a stop motion device.
