Abstract
1,099,150. Overhead travelling cranes. R. WILSON. Oct. 21, 1966, No. 47114/66. Heading B8B. An overhead travelling crane has an operator's cab 40, Fig. 1, which is suspended from a crab 19 so as to be movable independently of the load hook 37. The main beam 7 of the crane runs on longitudinal rails 4 supported by a building 1 and supports two parallel trackways on which run crabs 18, 19. Each crab carries a motor for traversing and further motors 33, 34 provided with electromagnetic brakes 54, for the hoisting winches. Push-buttons 44a control all the movements of both crane hook and operator's cab. A control cable 48 has a spring drum 45, Fig. 4 (not shown), which keeps the cable taut. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 the main beam 7 is much wider and is provided with a pair of rails 125, parallel with the rails 4, on which are supported subsidiary beams 120, 121 provided with tracks 13, 14 for the load and cab crabs respectively. This arrangement enables the cab to be moved away from the load in the longitudinal direction of the building, to a limited degree, as well as transversely. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates an electrical control circuit for the crane.
