Abstract

1,085,513. Overhead travelling cranes. WELLMAN ENGINEERING CORPORATION Ltd. Aug. 12, 1965 [Aug. 31, 1964], No. 12702/65. Heading B8B. A load hook 7 is suspended from the trolley 2 of a tower-crane or overhead crane by a cable 8, which passes from an anchor point 9 round a pulley 4a, a return pulley at one end of the track and back to a winch at the other end of the track, and a cable 5, which passes over a pulley 4 to a second winch adjacent the first winch. Figs 2, 3, 4 (not shown) illustrate alternative arrangements on similar lines. To eliminate swinging of the load the pulleys on the trolley may be interconnected by a belt which is crossed so that the pulleys are constrained to rotate in opposite directions. The cables 8, 5 traverse the trolley in addition to raising the load. Each rope may make multiple passes.
