Abstract

1,098,880. Valves. R. W. WILLIAMS and J. R. WILLIAMS. May 9, 1966 [May 28, 1965], No. 20515/66. Heading F2V. An automatic hosecock comprises a closure member 7 movable relative to a tappet 11 associated with a hand lever 4 to permit closure while the hand lever is held open, such closure being initiated by means responsive to suction due to the flow of liquid when an air inlet 59 is obstructed, the closure member having a cavity to house means 35, 39 normally holding it in a fixed position relative to the tappet and suction operated means 27 for the holding means. The means 27 consists of a piston having its lower face connected to the inlet 59 by passages 44, 43, 60, 58 and 56 and its upper face to atmosphere by a passage 41. Downward movement of the piston when the inlet 59 is obstructed by the rising level of liquid allows balls 35 in the holding means to be moved radially outwards by the tappet 11 so that a spring 8 closes the member 7. A spring. loaded non-return valve 63 is provided downstream of the main valve 7. The handle 4 has three pegs 18, 19, 20 to co-operate with a spring-loaded chock assembly 22 whereby the valve may be held in one of a number of positions. A dashpot is formed in the space between the lower end of the piston 7 and the tappet guide 13.
