Abstract
944,384. Valves. WAYNE TANK & PUMP CO. Ltd. Feb. 9, 1961 [March 24, 1960], No. 10438/60. Heading F2V. A valve body 1 with an inlet 3 and an outlet 4 accommodates a seat 2 with which co-operates a main closure member 7 guided at its forward end by body flutes 9 and at the opposite end by a cylindrical portion 10, the closure member 7 being loaded on to its seat by a spring 11; the rapid closing of the member 7 is prevented by using the interior of the latter as a dashpot, an orifice 12 being provided for this purpose. Seating within the closure member 7 is a pilot valve 14 having a nose 15 extending through the seat 2 into the path of a cam 5 operable by a preset mechanism, not shown, which closes the valve device after a given quantity of fluid has passed therethrough. Initial rotation of the cam 5 in the opening direction unseats the pilot valve 14 and enables fluid to flow through the device via radial ports 18 in the member 7; this flow reduces the pressure differential across the member 7 whereby continued movement of the pilot valve 14 causes a washer 19 on the nose 15 to abut and readily unseat the member 7. Upon the presetmechanism moving the cam 5 in the closing direction the nose 15 is held against the cam by a weak spring 20 so that upon the member 7 being re-seated the final flow through the device, prior to cut-off, is controlled by the pilot valve.
