Abstract

1,096,171. Container closures. W. BRANDL. March 5, 1965 [March 10, 1964], No. 9489/65. Heading B8T. A container closure comprises a rubber, plastics &c. sealing ring (2), which is secured around the container opening so that when a cover (4) is pressed into the opening, .a downwardly projecting inner rim (21) of the sealing ring engages a projection (5) on the cover to form a vacuum or pressure tight seal. The cover is disengaged from the sealing ring by upwardly pulling a handle (6). In a modification the handle is replaced by a lever (12), one end (13) of which passes through an aperture (10) in the cover to engage the sealing ring. Rotation of the lever about its pivot (11) causes the lever to disengage the cover -from the sealing ring. Alternatively, the lever may be replaced by a pin (16) attached to the cover and having a rotatable handle (18) on which a cam (17) is formed. Rotation of the handle causes the cam to engage a projection (17) on the container so that the cover is lifted. The projection on the cover is interrupted at (7<SP>1</SP>) below the pin to assist the removal qf the cover. The sealing ring may have a triangular or trapezoidal cross-section.
