Abstract

1,274,916. Dispensing closures. ATLANTIC DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT CORP. 10 June, 1969 [10 June, 1968; 16 Sept., 1968], No. 29393/69. Heading B8T. A plastics dispensing closure assembly (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a closure member 11 which is pivotable between the solid and broken lines shown, by the application of finger pressure to the forward and rearward portions thereof respectively. An entrance port 32 in the member 11, through which the contents of container 36 pass, is connected to an exit port 31 through a substantially cylindrical passage 30 and aligns with an opening 34 in the closure assembly when in the open position (shown in broken lines). In its closed position the surface 27 seals the opening 34, on annular bead 35, providing a leakproof seal between the opening 34 and surface 27 while a similar seal is provided between the closure assembly (10) and container 36 by the annular bead 39. Because of the elasticity of the plastics material the application of finger pressure to the rearward portion of closure member 11 causes the depending skirt 44 to disengage from the wall portion 45 and pivot about the shaft 20 into its open position. The assembly may be secured to the container 36 by means of screw threads 37 or alternatively by means of an inwardly protruding annular rib engaging with an annular rib on the container neck, Fig. 6 (not shown). In a modification, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), which is particularly adapted for continuous pouring of liquids an air vent (74) is provided in the pivotal closure member. In a further modification, Figs. 9-12 (not shown), a dispensing container (110) for use with particulate matter has a pivoting cover (122) with spaced toothlike projections (130) projecting into an opening (118) in the container (110). When in the open position of the cover (122) the teeth are not completely withdrawn from the opening, thus providing a sieve like passage through which the particulate matter is dispensed.
