613,523. Fuel tank closures. PAINE, F. D. Oct. 17, 1945, No. 27240. Convention date, Oct. 16, 1944. [Class 123(i)] A pressure-tight tank cap 7 has a flange 8 and recessed portion 6 adapted to carry a sealing washer 10 in a channel 9. A shield 12 rotating in unison with the screwed member 13 covers the recessed portion 6 of the cap, and a portion 16 of the shield is hinged at 15 to form a handle when raised in the upright position. A sealing washer 20 is carried between the cap and shield members to seal the member 13 where it passes through the cap. In operation the member 23 is inserted into the tank opening through slots 5 and turned until arrested by dependent lugs 4. Rotation of the shield member 12 by means of the handle 16 causes the nut 22, on which the member. 23 is carried, to move axially until sufficient pressure is applied to seat the sealing washer 10 on the rim of the tank opening. The handle 16 is pressed into a horizontal position when not in use and may be raised by a lever attached to a press button 18.
