In an oil-fired furnace 1 for ceramic purposes a burner is mounted level with the fire door 9 and has an impulse-operating electromagnetic injection pump 10 with a cyclone forming air supply device 12 adjoined by a mixing chamber 14 enclosing a multi-jet nozzle (13) and with a tubular extension 15 extending into the furnace and a cup burner 6 for light oil is mounted beneath it. The burner is mounted on a ball- and-socket arrangement so that the nozzle may be adjusted for position within the combustion chamber.
