Abstract

1,064,367. Vapour burners. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Nov. 1, 1965, No. 46218/65. Headings F4F and F4T. A pilot burner (24), Fig. 1, for igniting a main burner (20) of a vertical lift jet engine comprises a vaporizing chamber (25) containing an electrical heating element (27) on to which drops of fuel fall from an attenuated passage (26) fed by a conduit (23) connected through a restriction (22) to a main fuel conduit (21). The outlet of the vaporizing chamber is controlled by a spring-closed non-return valve (28) which opens when the pressure in the chamber reaches a predetermined value and closes when the pressure drops, the action thus being intermittent. The vaporized fuel ignites when it mixes with air or it is ignited by a high-frequency arc or spark igniter (29) or by an extension of the electric heating element (27) disposed downstream of the non-return valve (28), Fig. 3.
