A shaver has a housing 1 defining a substantially air-tight cavity and cutters 5 comprising rotary cutter elements driven by a turbine 6 and slotted combs 33, 34 the housing being connected through a flexible hose 7 with a source of low-pressure established, e.g. by a vacuum pump so that lather or other conditioning substance applied to the area to be shaved is dissipated and cut hairs are drawn into the cavity and pass to the source of low pressure.
