Abstract

1,071,914. Reversible windows. GRETSCH-UNITAS G.m.b.H. May 7, 1964 [May 22, 1963; Nov. 23, 1963], No. 19015/64. Addition to 1.067.301. Heading E1J. A window with a sash 1 reversible through 180‹ into alternative closed positions in the frame 7 resilient sealing strip 4 is provided in the median plane containing the axis X of rotation, around the periphery of the sash and a stiffer strip 5, (e.g. an aluminium strip with teeth on its stem and hammered into a groove) around the inner periphery of the frame 7, so that in either of the alternative closed positions of the sash, the strips 4 and 5 abut each other and are pressed together by a window locking mechanism which comprises locking members 12 having wedge-shaped edges 21, Fig. 6 mounted on a linkage rod 16 accommodated in a rabbet in the frame 7, and located correspondingly to be opposite grooves 14 in the sash, so that when the membrs 12 protrude from the frame 7, they enter the corresponding groove 14 and urge the sash in a direction to press the strip 4 against the strip 5. The members 12 drive horizontal slots 22, cooperating with pins 23 on the mounting strips 10 and slanting slots 24 cooperating with pins 25 on the rod 16 so as this latter is pulled downwardly, the locking member is moved transversely to enter the grooves 14 which have rounded corners 15 to guide the wedge shaped ends of the members 12 thereinto. The linkage 16 may be operated by a handle on the lower horizontal bar of the sash, and the linkage is covered by a cover 11. The pivot bearing of the sash is in two parts and is described and claimed in Specification 1,071,915.
