Abstract

191,493. Hoare, A. Oct. 15, 1921. Sliding bolts; multiple bolt fastenings; locks, revolving-barrel.-A sliding bolt or bolts are operated from outside a door by a plate or plates moved at right-angles to the direction of motion of the bolt or bolts by means of a rack and a pinion turned by a revolving barrel lock of the pintumbler type. Bolts C slide in casings B to engage sockets T on the door post, and each has a stud c<2> engaging an inclined slot E in plates D sliding through the casings at right-angles to the bolts. When more than one plate D is employed, they are connected by links M. The plates are moved to shoot or retract the bolts from outside the door by a rack bar G and a pinion H which is feathered to a spindle J engaged for rotation by the connector-bar n<1> of a revolving barrel lock N. The pinion may be slid along the spindle to disconnect it from the rack to prevent actuation, either by a handle attached to the disc S rigidly secured to the pinion, or by the bolt of a key lock operating a cam to move the pinion by engagement with the disc S. The casing F of the pinion is strongly attached by two rods P, P<1> entering the door parallel with the side flange f<1> and screws f<2>, f<3> passing through the flange f<1> on the door edge and traversing holes in the rods P, P<1>. Means are provided for operating the bolts from inside.
