Abstract

1,063,532. Firearms. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. April 26, 1965 [Oct. 29, 1964], No. 17445/65. Heading F3C. An automatic firearm has a gas cylinder 20, a piston 24 slidable therein and a duct connecting the gas cylinder to a tapping hole 12 in the firearm barrel 2. The duct is formed by a tube 18, a deflector 5 and a passage 4 in the foresight 3. The head 17 of the tube 18 is simply pushed into a sleeve 8 so that when the barrel is to be removed from the firearm body the two parts of the gas duct are easily disconnected. The sleeve 8 is rotatable to place one of a number of different size apertures in communication with passage 4 to alter the gas flow and is locked in position by a spring-loaded pin 11 engaging in one of a number of holes provided in the flange 9. The other end of the tube 18 is connected to the cylinder head 20 in the manner of a sleeve valve or, as shown, by a cone 19 slidable in a funnel formed in the head. Labyrinth seals may be provided between the cone and funnel. The sleeve 26 of a cocking slide is provided between the gas piston 24 and the casing 1.
