Abstract

521,388. Guns, projectiles. JANECEK, F., and JANECEK, F. K. Nov. 11, 1938, No. 28401/39. Convention date, July 16. Divided out of 521,345. [Classes 9 (i) and 92 (ii)] A muzzle attachment 17 to a rifled barrel 16 has a bore which gradually converges at 18 to an extent sufficient to deform the projectile without fracture or separation of any part of the projectile, the final shape of the projectile resulting in an improved ballistic performance. In the form shown, the outer end of the attachment comprises a smooth cylindrical bore 11. The attachment which is readily detachable, may be recessed into the end of the barrel instead of forming a barrel extension as shown. A gun may be provided with a number of attachments, having different terminal diameters. The armour-piercing projectile used with the attachment is that described and claimed in Specification 521,345.
