Abstract

1,124,748. Automatic firearm. OERLIKONBUHRLE HOLDING A.G. 15 Nov., 1965 [19 Nov., 1964], No. 48408/65. Heading F3C. The gas bleed channel 211 of an automatic firearm lies within the external diameter of an exchangeable barrel 10 and is formed in an insert piece 21 located in a groove 20 in the barrel. The insert piece is clamped in the groove by peening over material of the barrel 10 adjacent the ends of the insert piece which are chamfered at 27. The barrel 10 is mounted in a receiver 14 by a bayonet-joint 12 and pin 13, the receiver being provided with an insert 15 which houses a sealing piston 19. The piston 19 is urged against the barrel by a build up of pressure of bled gas downstream of the piston. In a further embodiment (Figs. 4 to 7, not shown), the barrel is formed with cooling ribs and the insert piece is mounted between two of these. The insert piece is provided adjacent each end with a dovetail shaped guide fitting in a complementary shaped portion in the barrel. The insert piece is held in place by a transverse pin.
