Abstract
1,044,001. Filter or strainer pipeline fitting. J. W. MIDDLEMAS. Oct. 9, 1962 [Oct. 9, 1961], No. 36237/61. Heading B1D. A fitting for a pipeline for transporting fluid materials has an interior surface adapted to enclose the fluid material, a strainer or filter for the fluid material, and a beating element inside said interior surface, said heating element being so positioned as to be able to heat the fluid material just prior to or during its passage through the strainer or filter and wherein the heat energy for the heating element is supplied by hot gases. The heating element may be operated by steam and may be thermostatically controlled. Preferably the heating element is removable without substantial disturbance of the strainer or filter. In Fig. 1, 4 is an electric heating element immersed in liquid passing through the filter 3, and is controlled by thermostat 10. In Fig. 2, a steam line 15 supplies the heating element, the wall 11 of which has heating fins 12 immersed in liquid passing through filter 3. The heating element may be positioned downstream of the filter or strainer provided that convection, conduction or other means causes the liquid to be heated just prior to or during its passage through the said filter or strainer.
