Abstract

1,043,898. Rolling. MANNESMANN. MEER A.G. Sept. 16, 1963, No. 36310/63. Heading B3M. An arrangement for driving the rolls of a rolling mill having a number of closely spaced stands, comprises a motor driven input shaft 2 which drives, through bevel and spur gearing 3, twin input gear units 4. The units are connected by spur gearing 14 and universally jointed shafts to the rolls 6. Shafts 11 a transmit the input drive to the impellers 11 of hydraulic transmissions 7 which are controlled by servo motors 8 and whose outputs are fed to the units 4. The gear units are disposed symmetrically about a central horizontal plane in a single housing 9 which is divided vertically into two halves.
