Abstract

The paint for marking road lines comprises pigment, binder and two solvents having relatively low and high boiling points and is sprayed under pressure at a temperature between the two boiling points. Spraying pressure is generated by evaporation of the low boiling point solvent, which may be chlorinated hydrocarbons such as methylene chloride, carbon tetrachloride, tricloroethylene, trichloroethane and perchloroethylene boiling between 100-200 DEG F. The high boiling point solvent is an alkyd resin solvent such as naphtha, having a boiling point above 200 DEG F. Alkyd, vinyl and one component epoxy resin or chlorinated rubber may be used as binders used in conjunction with extenders, pigment, crushed glass and glass beads. Glass beads may be dropped on to the paint whilst drying.ALSO:The paint for marking road lines comprises pigment, binder and two solvents having relatively low and high boiling points and is sprayed under pressure at a temperature between the two boiling points (see Division E1). Spraying pressure is generated by evaporation of the low boiling paint solvent. The low boiling paint solvent may be chlorinated hydrocarbons such as methylene chloride, carbon tetrachloride, trichloroethylene, trichloroethane and per-chloroethylene boiling between 100-200 DEG F. The high boiling point solvent is an alkyd resin solvent such as naphtha or oxylol having a boiling point above 200 DEG F. Alkyd, vinyl and one component epoxy resin may be used as binders used in conjunction with extenders, pigment, crushed glass and glass beads. Glass beads may be dropped on to the paint whilst drying. In Examples 4 to 6, a combination of binders is used, one being a phthalic alkyd soluble in the higher boiling solvent and the other a vinyl chloride-vinyl isobutyl ether copolymer which is soluble only in the lower boiling solvent. The alkyd resin is used in all six examples and other ingredients in the exemplary compositions apart from these specified above are TiO2, silica, asbestine, lead and cobalt driers and blue dye.
