1,166,980. Paints. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 Oct., 1967 [24 Oct., 1966], No. 50356/68. Divided out of 1,154,504. Headings C3P and C3Q. A paint composition suitable for the hot application to a road comprises (a) a pigment binder comprising a film-forming chlorinated polymer and one or more chlorinated paraffin waxes and (b) a solvent consisting of one or more organic solvents having a boiling-point in the range 35-150‹ C. and wherein the ratio by weight of chlorinated polymer to solvent is from 1: 1.25 to 1: 7.5. The polymer may be a chlorinated rubber of more than 64% by weight chlorine, a chlorinated polyethylene of more than 65% chlorine, a chlorinated polyvinyl chloride of 62-65% chlorine, or a chlorinated polypropylene, and the polymer may have a viscosity in the range 5-30 centipoises. The binder may contain a drying oil, a non-drying oil, or an oil-modified natural or synthetic resin. A coarse extender, stabilizer or suspending agent may also be present in the paint. A suitable solvent is an aromatic hydrocarbon, a ketone, an aliphatic hydrocarbon, an ester, an alcohol or a chlorinated hydrocarbon, in particular methylene chloride, trichloroethylene or 1: 1: 1-trichloroethane. Suitable compositions exemplified comprise a chlorinated rubber, a chlorinated paraffin wax, inorganic pigments (titanium dioxide or a titanium calcium pigment), an extender (china clay, barytes, a fibrous talc or diatomaceous earths), a stabilizer (epichlorohydrin and tung oil/resin-modified pentaerythritol esterified phenolic resin) and a solvent (a mixture of toluene and trichloroethylene or methyl ethyl ketone).
