Abstract
1,020,253. Coating pipes internally. J. J. HEILKER. June 19, 1964, No. 25443/64. Heading B2B. An internal coating of synthetic resin is produced in a pipe by spasmodically blowing or drawing through the preheated pipe airborne powdered synthetic resin material. One end of a flanged preheated pipe 11 is connected through a hole in a plate 9, a member 7 and valve 6 to a vessel 1 containing a fluidized bed 28 of the coating material while the other end is connected through pipes 14, 17 and valve 18 to a vacuum and dust collection box 20. With valve 6 closed valve 18 is opened reducing the pressure in the pipe 11; valve 6 is then suddenly opened while valve 18 is closed thus causing coating material to whirl into and through the pipe 11. An additional vaned member 7 may serve to impart the whirling motion to the air and powder mixture. The procedure is repeated several times to deposit a uniform coating on the walls of the pipe. Coating materials specified include superpolyamides, chlorinated polyesters and nylon. The pipe is heated to between 300 ‹C. and 350 ‹C. by means of an oven, by induction heating or by infra red ray treatment.
