Abstract
1,069,423. Coating apparatus. AEROSTYLE Ltd. April 28, 1964 [April 29, 1963], No. 16834/63. Heading B2L. In electrostatically depositing powdered insulating material on an article, a stream of air or other gas and the material is forced through a duct made of insulating material, which duct causes the material to follow a tortuous path therewithin so that the particles of powdered material are brought into frictional contact with the walls of the duct and thereby acquire an electric charge, and the powdered material is then directed at the article. In the embodiment shown container 11 with pressure tight lid 12 contains the powder to be sprayed and has means (not shown) by which powder may be sucked into a tube, the latter being connected to an insulating hose 14 wound on a central stem. The end portion 17 of the tube leads to a nozzle by which the powder can be directed on to articles to be sprayed. The coiled formation of the tube ensures that the particles of powder strike the inner surface of the tube bore and generate friction so that they become electrically charged. The article'to be sprayed is maintained at a suitable potential such that the particles are attracted by the article and the article is preferably maintained at a temperature to cause the particles of powder to fuse together.
