Abstract

1,019,243. Window and door frames; joining metal bars. WILLIAMS & WILLIAMS Ltd. March 26, 1963 [March 2, 1962], No. 8190/62. Headings E1J and E1K. A horizontal bar 2 of a window or door frame &c. and of channel, H, or hollow rectangular or other cross-section is assembled to a vertical bar 1 of one of said sections by separate intermediate connecting piece 7 having a vertically extending projection 8 which makes a close but free fit with a vertical slot 5 in the adjacent side of the vertical bar 1 a transversely-extending key piece 11 held in a slot 6 in the bar 1 to prevent relative vertical movement and said key piece 11 also engaging in a transverse slot 9 in the projection 8, the connecting piece 7 being clamped to the vertical bar by screw 12 through washer 13 screwing into tapped bore 10 in the piece 7, at least one vertical socket 15 formed on the piece 7 remote from the bar 1 and nails or selftapping screws 18 &c. located in the socket or sockets and extending through holes in a horizontal flange or flanges 17 formed on or integral with the bar 2 to secure the piece 7 to the bar 2. The sockets 15 are arranged in pairs, the sockets of a pair being in alignment and vertically spaced by a slot 16 into which the end portions of the flanges 17 fit, screws &c. 18 extending through the lower sockets, through the flanges 17 and into the upper sockets. The sockets may be circumferentially complete. In an alternative construction each of the sockets may take the form of an aperture in a horizontal flange on the piece 7. In another construction the key piece 11 may be integral with or rigidly secured to the piece 7, and the slot 5 and projection 8 are substituted by the channel 4 and projection 14, and there may be two or more keypieces 11, each piece being partly in a slot 9 in the piece 7 and partly in a slot 6 in the bar 1.
