Abstract
1,018,655. Sealing plugs; joint-making packing. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Oct. 29, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No. 42704/63. Headings F2B and F2P. In a device for providing a leak-tight coupling between two sealed enclosures 1, 2 to be joined together and having openings 3, 4 of the same dimensions and brought into oppositely facing relation, the openings are surrounded by flanges 5, 6 and closed by plugs 7, 8 adapted to fit within the respective flanges with a small clearance. The outer face of the flange 5 Is provided with an open internal groove 9 whilst the plug 7 thereof is plain, and the flange 6 is plain and the plug 8 has an open external groove 11, the gaskets 10, 12 having crosssections in the shape of curvilineal polygons comprising at least four lips. Each of the four bearing faces, i.e. two groove faces, one plug face and one flange face, which are formed by portions of the surfaces of the three components which surround each gasket are in contact with at least one of the lips of that gasket, at least one lip of one of the two gaskets being in contact with at least one lip of the other gasket.
