Abstract

1,000,699. Feeding webs. SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN A.B. Nov. 28, 1962 [Dec. 2, 1961], No. 45066/62. Heading B6B. [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for supporting a web or sheets of sufficient length during forward conveyance thereof, comprises one or more distribution boxes 2a, 2b &c., with openings 3a, 3b through which two jets or two sets of jets of air issue parallel to the web movement, the jets from openings 3a being directed rearwardly and those from openings 3b being directed forwardly. Air is exhausted from channels 6 between the boxes to atmosphere or to the inlets of fans connected to the boxes. The upper edges 7 of the boxes are chamfered. The jets may have components directed towards the side edges of the web to stretch the web transversely. Driven rollers may feed the web, or the jets may produce a feeding component, e.g. by providing more forwardly directed jets than rearwardly-directed jets. Vertically-acting jets 8 may be provided between the main jets. Distribution boxes 9 may be provided above the web to direct perpendicular or oblique jets on to the web for drying or conditioning purposes. The web may be above or below the boxes 2a, 2b &c., and may be conveyed in a vertical or inclined plane as well as in a horizontal plane.
