Abstract

A speed reducing gear intended for use with a manure spreading machine has four different output speeds. The gear box has two housings attached to a common central support plate. The drive from the power take-off of the tractor which hauls the spreading machine is transmitted to the input shaft (1). The shaft (1) has a pinion which engages a gear wheel (5) mounted directly above it on a shaft (6). The drive is transmitted through two further reduction stages either directly to the output shaft (112) or to the lay shaft (36). The lay shaft (36) has a sliding gears (45, 55) which can be controlled by levers (53, 59) to engage either of the gears (23, 24) of the dog clutches (57, 58, 43, 44) to give four different speeds.
