931,299. Change-speed gear. KARL HULLER G.m.b.H. Oct. 10, 1960 [Aug. 24, 1960], No. 34604/60. Class 80 (2). Change-speed gearing for machine tools comprises a shaft 24 driving through a train of gears 33, 42, 43, 45 when a clutch 38 is engaged to transmit torque at a relatively high speed to a shaft 80 for rapid traverse in the machine tool, and a second train including the shaft 24 and a continuously variable-ratio expanding-pulley gear 50 driving through gears 56, 60, 73, 74, 75 when a clutch 70 is engaged to transmit torque to the shaft 80 for the normal tool feed. A motor 22 drives the shaft 24, through an overload clutch 30, and the expanding-pulley gear 50 is controlled by a hand wheel 55.
